How Does Teltonika RUT950 Router Work?

The Teltonika RUT950 is a mobile device that converts 3G, 4G, and LTE cellular signals to WiFi. This mobile broadband router establishes a local WiFi hotspot to provide internet access as an alternative to cable, DSL, and other wired services, which are either unavailable or more expensive than a cellular data plan.

How do WiFi hotspots work?

A WiFi hotspot receives a signal from the nearest service provider and distributes it to all connected devices. A WiFi hotspot transforms the telecommunication signals in our environment into a private WiFi signal.

It functions similarly to any internet-connected device but works with a SIM card. It can be either a 3G/4G or a 5G network. The mobile router produces WiFi signals within a 30-50-foot radius, to which you can connect numerous other devices.

Teltonika RUT950 vs RUT955

The RUT955 is the same as the RUT950 except for the addition of GPS/GNSS support and a USB port.

Teltonika RUT950 Alternatives

There are several alternatives to the RUT950 that you might like to consider, depending on where you want to use the router.

For example, if you want a 4G mobile router in your campervan, you could think about a motorhome MiFi device such as the Huawei E5577.

The Huawei is a small unit that fits easily into your pocket. So you could take it wherever you like. You can still connect up to ten other devices to the Huawei, more than enough for the typical family.

You could opt for the Maxview Roam X or the Oyster Connect for more permanent and robust systems.

Both the Maxview X and the Oyster connect are more robust systems because of their powerful external roof antennas. These systems can pick up network signals that most other mobile routers aren’t capable of receiving.
