Maxview, the UK company based in Norfolk, has now taken the hugely popular Maxview Roam and upgraded it to the new Maxview Roam X model. The Roam has long been the ultimate solution for reliable and robust internet for your vehicle.

Now with the Maxview Roam X, you will see faster and even more powerful internet in your campervan, caravan, canal boat, motorhome, etc.

What is Maxview Roam X?

The Maxview Roam X is a high-powered travel router specifically built to establish reliable WiFi solutions for anyone’s motorhome, caravan and other mobile vehicles.

The Roam X WiFi system is completely plug and play and provides a high-speed (up to 300 Mbps) WiFi hotspot inside your vehicle.

The system can provide a robust and reliable WiFi signal because the roof-mounted omnidirectional, 5G ready antenna provides a significant signal boost that improves reception. While other campers cannot find a workable signal, you’ll have no issues streaming movies and your favourite TV shows.

Inside the vehicle, you fix a superfast 4G router which creates the actual hotspot. In addition, if the campsite WiFi is sufficient for your needs, or you want to use the WiFi connection at your home, the Roam X allows you to switch between 4G and available WiFi connections, enabling you to save your SIM card data.

Maxview Roam X Price

The Maxview Roam X is available in white or grey variants, and for the system on its own, the price is £565.48; if you prefer the unit fitted, the price is £624.99.

How Does Maxview Roam X Work?

Maxview Roam X works the same way as your home router, except the Roam uses a 4G data-only SIM card to gain a network connection. Once you install the router in your vehicle, you can connect all your existing devices to the router as you do at home. The Maxview Roam could connect up to 50 devices, but now the new Roam X will connect up to 100 external devices.

As mentioned, the external unit houses the omnidirectional antenna that is 5G ready; once 5G is widely available, you’ll be able to connect to that service. Because the antenna is omnidirectional, it won’t require adjustments to find the best signal.

Maxview Roam Technical Details

  • The Roam X router delivers exceptional performance
  • The antenna is compatible with all 5G frequency bands, ensuring that you are guaranteed 5G coverage as the networks expand
  • Two separate SIM card slots on the router for convenience
  • CAT 6 LTE chip with download speeds of up to 300mbps
  • The router has four ethernet ports for wired devices
  • MU-MIMO (Multi-user, multiple-input, multiple-output technology) allows you to choose between 2.4GHz and 5GHz, the same as your home router. 2.4GHz means lower speeds but allows more extended range and wall penetration. While 5GHz provides faster speeds but a shorter distance

Maxview Roam X Installation

To avoid any interference issues with the roof antenna, you should leave about a twelve-inch (30cm) gap the entire circumference of the antenna unit.  You can mount the router any way you like providing the WiFi antenna on the unit is in a vertical position.

The included 3M seal adhesive is very strong, so ensure you have the ideal position because you won’t be able to remove the unit once fixed.  The coaxial cable passes through the roof directly below the centre of the antenna unit.  The standard installation is suitable for a roof thickness of between 10mm to 50mm if your roof is any thicker than that, you will need to check out Maxview’s mounting accessories.

When the antenna’s exact position is sorted, use the enclosed template, marking the 25mm centre hole position and the outside of the antenna.

Clean the roof’s surface area where you have elected to fit the antenna.  Pass the coaxial cable through the hole and remove the 3M backing.  Push the cable through the hole in the roof.  Position the antenna within the outline you created from the template.  The final thing you need to do with the antenna is press firmly down around the edges to ensure a watertight seal.

Go inside the vehicle, attach the clamp from the kit and turn clockwise on the thread that comes into your vehicle from the bottom of the antenna unit.  Keep tightening the clamp until you feel the seal underneath the antenna compressing.

Maxview Roam X App

You can get connected in no time at all using the Maxview Roam App available on iOS and android. The app is optional; however, if you choose to use it, you can get your Roam set up more quickly. You can also use the app to switch between your SIM card and WiFi source and access advanced settings and additional features.

Maxview Roam X WiFi

The powerful router collects 3G/4G signals and converts them into a safe WiFi hotspot. You can also configure the router to receive WiFi from a local source as a backup. You will only need to use 3G/4G data when necessary.

The router has a CAT6 LTE chip with download speeds up to 300 Mbps, and you can choose between 2.4GHz or 5GHz. To create the hotspot, you will need a SIM card. The router is unlocked so that it will accept any network SIM.

Choosing a data-only SIM is your best option for cost because if you frequently stream movies and shows, you’ll probably need between 80GB TO 100GB.

Does Maxview Roam X Work with 5G?

The Roam antenna is 5G ready and compatible with all 5G frequency bands.

Is Maxview Roam X Any Good?

The Maxview Roam X does an excellent job and won’t disappoint you. When there’s no signal on your smartphone, you’ll find that Roam will pick up a signal powerful enough to stream your movies and shows. After all, that’s what you want from a system such as the Maxview Roam X.
